We gave this place a try:

Puri Oka

2-star hotel
Candidasa

Lovely setting despite regular solicitations

Standard Twin Room (9m²)

Puri Oka is a hotel offering about 20 rooms and 2 villas in Candidasa.

The hotel is situated in a street with several hotels and a few restaurants, away from the large Jalan Raya Candidasa. The place is very quiet and overlooks the Bali Sea.

The employees are Indonesian and have a fair level of English; they speak well enough for a general understanding.

During our stay and according to the current exchange rate, they offered the following types of rooms: standard twin rooms with fan for €21.3 (IDR 367,000) per night, one-bedroom bungalows for €29.0 (IDR 500,000), deluxe family rooms for €63.7 (IDR 1,100,000) and even a three-bedroom villa for over €144.8 (IDR 2,500,000). Baby cots and extra beds were available on demand.

Within the facilities the hotel provides a swimming pool and a set of deckchairs overseeing the sea, situated a few meters away. WIFI is accessible throughout the place (even though slightly capricious sometimes). Finally, the hotel has a restaurant, offers excursions and the possibility to get a massage by the swimming pool (small dedicated corner).

The room we had was situated on the first floor of a building with around eight rooms. We walk down a lush green lane alongside the bungalows to access the swimming pool and the restaurant.

With regards to furniture, our 9 m² room had twin beds with a fan and was very simple. Little details: the windows had no glass (but a simple mosquito net and small curtains). The inside private bathroom was equipped with a bath, two soaps and towels.

Puri Oka’s restaurant
Breakfast at Puri Oka

Breakfast (included) was served at the restaurant from 7:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. It comprises a hot drink (tea or coffee), a fruit salad and a dish (eggs and/or bread or pancake). On the first night, we asked for an Indonesian breakfast (not specified in the menu) and we have got a fried rice with one egg instead of the occidental dish. On the second night, we opted for a cheese and tomatoes omelette on a slice of bread and a banana pancake with honey. Breakfast was good, however rather light.

What nights did we spend?

We slept well in our room at Puri Oka, even though it was very warm there! The fan was running well but it was insufficient. It was impossible to create a breeze in the room.

The bungalows

We enjoyed the swimming pool, refreshing, the rather clean room (daily cleaning) and the nice view on the Bali Sea. We less enjoyed the old-fashioned bathroom (slightly lacking cleaning), the decoration, which, in the building sometimes lacks taste, and especially to be under the impression of being a cash cow! We had many (too many!) solicitations to consume and also the price of the room, which we had to pay upon arrival, was higher than the price stated on our online booking. However, on that last point we did not face any difficulty in paying the agreed price.
